Top of the British Blogs

Mark over at the BritBlog Directory has just launched the Top Of The British Blogs Chart which I was talking about the other week.

EVERYONE on this chart is being counted the same way and it is also an automated process leaving it less open to errors while collating the visit data. If you are British and have a blog you can enter the charts here.

So onto the first charts themselves. New Links has repeated it's success in the short lived British Blog Charts by placing at number three in the first chart. Yay!

Other blogs in the charts that we know about / link to are A Welsh View, The Flophouse, Stephen Newton's diary of sorts and DoctorVee. There's also an entry for Gordon McLean (creator of Scottish Blogs) who has been using New Links as a source for a couple of his link blog links recently. It's very incestuous this blogging malarkey!

See full list here.

Funnily enough I've never had a problem with template stuff - it's all to do with comemnting, posting and post management which have been crap.

I suspect crappy database handling at Blogspot - when NewLinks is being worky (with it's collection of thousands of posts) our test sites (with only a handful of posts) are fine.

Could'nt even bloody sign in to look at my template most days recently.

That could be down to crappy databases handling too.

So as well as tarting up newlinks.co.uk we could also optimise Blogspot's database code for them too. Yay - weed for code!

ATTRIBUTED links!!

(you did have me worrying for a bit there though... ;-) )

I know they were attributed - that's how I knew you'd pinched them. Technorati listed the via's. ;)

It's pretty hard to tell otherwise - well apart from the times the Guardian have visited and nicked links for their link log. Easily spottable by a visit from hadrian.guardian.co.uk (their firewall), referred from a Bloglines account and appearing in the Guardian linklog a few minutes later. This has happened at least three times to my knowledge - all of them with stuff I've found through other means and not off other blogs ie it's highly unlikely they've read them elsewhere.

So much for them being the Blogger's Newspaper - the link thieving twunts have never mentioned New Links ever (in any shape or form) even though we are good enough to steal from and good enough to subscribe to via Bloglines. Ho hum.

One day I'll dish the dirt on the Grauniad stealing their content for the magazine and lifting editorial straight from blogs...

Bah, mutter, grumble... ;)
