The Winter Solstice occurs today at 6:35pm. As I enjoyed New Links' celebration of Beltane (including sacrificial goat slaughter and naked chicks) tonight I'll be in Jesmond Dene mostly doing primal screams at the moon. Probably.
This is the real reason we celebrate Christmas at this time of year - the Jeebusian church just slapped one of their festivals on top of one of the Roman festivals (Sol god of the sun) which was probably slapped on top of prehistoric solstice celebrations. So you can open your presents today. Yay.
