Floor buffer sucked into MRI machine

time for your examinationAn expensive MRI machine at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, USA sustained at least $200,000 in damage when a metal floor buffer was mistakenly placed nearby and was sucked in by the machine's powerful magnets, a television station reports.

Certain implanted electronic devices, such as pacemakers, have been known to be affected by the magnetic field of the MRI machine. Patients with pacemakers in particular are precluded from having MRI scans, as the magnetic fields generated by the machines have been known to cause severe heart arrhythmia and even death.
