He did it by wiring a PS2 controller up to his PC's parallel port connected to relays on the controller to try combinations of buttons. Here are all the old ones, and the new ones too!

Rocket Engine Fires Up for Space Prize
And finally, you know the guy who started PayPal? Anyone want to guess what he's up to now? Well, after selling PayPal to eBay in 2002, he used some of the $1.5 billion proceeds to start a company called Space Exploration Technologies Corporation.
They've just fired up their new rocket engine that they hope will provide the motive force to get the first private humanzees into space.
