Fantasy Football

It's all change from last week and today's tables show me in the lead. Yay!

The tight top four now looks like a tight top three of me, Merg and ILuvNUFC with Dogs coming in even lower than Bungers. It's just like the Premier League - the top few teams dominating every season and 'the rest'. ;)

More football with reports for the toon match vs Everton up at BAWARAO and nufc.com.

Stick Avalanche

More sticky goodness in the shape of Stick Avalance but the only commands this stick man takes are left and right. This flash game has you moving the man left and right avoiding the black triangles and collecting the red dots.

More sticky stuff?

Abandonia

A large collection of 'abandonware' (ie games which are no longer being sold) for the PC can be found at Abandonia. All the games are DOS based - you might want to try DOSBox to try and get them running without swearing. Try to stay away from the older ones - CGA just makes your eyes bleed.

Strip Dir 3.
Strip Dir 3 is a useful PHP based tool that allows you to 'strip' the images out of an Open Directory (Open Dir), Image Board or any website.
All you have to do is enter the URL of the page and click Strip!
But the best thing is that you can download all images in once! When you've stripped a page you can select several (or all) images and Strip Dir will generate a ZIP file for you to download, containing the images you've selected! It's can't be any easier!

Does Apple know it's Christmas time?

Apparently not. At least, not where concessions to charity are concerned. Apple, sticklers for their 99¢/79p pricing policy, are refusing to allow the dubious-quality Band Aid "update" be sold for £1.49 -- its 'universal' online price-tag, despite it being still okay to overcharge the British for having a different currency - when it favours Apple.

One for bhell13

If you're looking for something to do tonight why not pop along to the opening performance tonight at the new Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. Apparently it has more seats than any theatre on Broadway, NY!

If you're still bored on Sunday you can go for a train ride as the trains are to be free. Oh to be in Cardiff! ;)

Friday Game - Kiiking

Here's a nice nice easy game for you all on a sunny Friday. Kiiking is playing on swings Estonian style.

And what do Estonians do with their swings that we don't? They swing all the way over the cross bar whilst standing on the swing. And if that wasn't hard enough they lengthen the ropes on the swings - the current record is a swing with a length of 7.01m.

I'm off to Heaton Park.

The Discovery Of A Scientific Proof Of God

Looks like we spoke too soon in our choice of science over God for there is scientific proof that God exists - it must be right because it's got equations and everything.

Apparently it's all to do with Relativity and brain sizes and the number of axes (that's the plural of axis not the weapon) our bodies are built on. The final form of the equation is
God = Guv
See - God really is THE Guv'nor.

I'm off to find God in a spreadsheet - then sell it on eBay. If the piece of holy toast we mentioned the other week is worth $28,000 then I reckon God in a digital stylee means I'm rich. Yay!

Chubby Chasers..?

Morning all! Couldn't post this yesterday dues to lack of tinterweb connection, but I'm sure you all watched it anyway...

Chubby Chasers on ITV 1 last night was devoted to bariatric love. and you know how much we love them here at NewLinks..!

But, here's a warning, for fsck's sake *dont'* type it into google, cause you'll end up in all manner of 'rent-a-tent" outfitters and sites devoted to women (and men) who like their partners super-sized.

Let's see how long it takes to get us to the top of google for this one. Maybe flip could start a new site to cater for this niche..? ;)

One For Creationists

New Links always tries to find linkage that will be of interest to our diverse readership. As that readership now seems to include Creationists (or at least people who say give Creationism a fair hearing) here's one for them. Textbook disclaimer stickers are to put on science textbooks that contain devilish ideas like evolution, the real age of the planet and other scientific heresies. Stick them on your childrens' books without delay - and if any teachers object burn them for witchcraft. Probably.

The really scary thing is the fact that the first one is a real sticker from Georgia - the American state not the European country if you hadn't guessed! Yay for fundamentalist jeebusians!

We like Japanese TV here on New Links (mainly for it's total madness) and have featured lots of clips before including the classic teaching your cat to walk funny clip. Here's a collection of Japanese TV ads for a variety of products including videogames, tech stuff, hair and beauty and a load of other products.

Blog Torrent

Blog Torrent is the latest tool from Downhill Battle. This is the tool that was going to be known as BattleTorrent but they've decided on a name change.

What is it? It's only for people with PHP enabled websites which rules out we Blogspot bamps out but the basic premise is install this on your server then it allows you to upload a file to your server, automatically creating the tracker etc for the file and voila - you've published a torrent. Expect a lot more mp3 blogs etc any time now.

Lords of the Rhymes

we bring it heavy - hobbit style

Lords of the Rhymes are Hobbit rappers called Bombadil and Quickbeam whose lyrics are all about Middle Earth. Their songs include the seminal "Lords of the Rhymes - Sauron's Flying V Mix" and "Nine Fingered Frodo". Don't forget to check out the video which includes breakdancing Hobbit goodness.

Tabbed Browsing With IE?

Breasy.com (Browse Easy) is a browser within a browser. And that internal browser supports tabs amongst other things. So if you access Breasy with IE then you have got tabs in IE. Sort of. The site also lets you store bookmarks. That may not sound particularly exciting but it means the next time I'm using some steam powered computator in a web cafe in the middle of nowhere I'll have access to my bookmarks as well as my email. I know this sort of bookmark functionality exists with various services - but this the first one that comes with an online browser.

Dijjer

There's a new P2P client/system in town. This one is called Dijjer and according to the blurb it is trying to turn everyones PC into a cache for everyone else. So what does this mean for the end user? According to this post at slashdot it means every time you use Dijjer it will download files you didn't request. For example there are 3 files to grab off the Dijjer site. Start grabbing the first one and you may come back and find it's downloading the other two AND sharing them out to other people. Whilst this is will improve distribution times because of the higher number of available sources it's also a bit dodgy in that you may have files on your drive which you never requested and are highly illegal. Some of the slashdot posters are claiming because it's a cache there's no legal liability for the cache owner but I wouldn't want to be the test case for this one!

"Mom's Cancer" tells the story of my mother's battle with metastatic lung cancer. It's not a "how-to" manual about treating the disease. If I've learned anything, it is that every cancer, patient, physician, and outcome is unique. Rather, "Mom's Cancer" focuses on how a serious illness can affect patient and family, both practically and emotionally, in ways that I've discovered are very common. Many readers have written to tell me how surprised and gratified they were to learn they weren't alone.
