Sega Enters Hardware Arena

Take meow to your leader...with the Near Me Robot Cat! No word on backwards compatibility with the Dreamcast yet though.

Joking aside this weighs in tons cheaper than the Sony Aibo at only $300 (Gizmodo's conversion) so may be nothing more than a fancy Tamagotchi. The product page is in Japanese so I'm not sure what it's actually capable of but there's a 7.5MB wmv here. With it being so cheap it probably won't have a nice easy to use API for programming it. But it's been managed with a Furby so who knows? ;)

This site features some of the hottest, kinkyest nood pictures U'll ever find. This is not a bunch of random pr0n links. These are all unique images -- none R stolen from other sights. All the material are original, responsibly crafted with our sexy hot models.

Hey, d00dz ----- check out our noodz!
There are plenty of images of wriggling, intertwined forms dripping juice everywhere. You'll be drooling when you see the group noodz. To cater for your noodz needz when you are on the road they even have a WAP/PDA Noodz 'lite' service.

I know BykerSink is a fan of hot and spicy Vietnamese noodz so we could muscle in on this highly lucrative action if we get BykerSink to send us pictures of Vietnamese noodz as he is going on Thursday. Or we could just cut out the middle man and get Our Man In Hanoi on the case.

Good luck out there man - but don't forget your camera!

Newcastle force Sir Bobby Robson out

posted by mmChronic @ 11:42:00 AM

As predicted the other day by ILuvNufc dropping Shearer turned out to be Bobby's last managerial decision as news comes that NUFC have sacked Sir Bobby. As I commented the other day if this was coming (and it's been plain that it has by the various statements by Fat Fred and Sir Bobby) why wasn't it done in summer? Now we have to fsck about with getting a new manager in on top of all the other shit that is going on.

Worst still though are the rumours I've heard that the new management team will consist of Terry Venables and God. I sincerely hope this isn't true - I don't want to see that cockney wide boy within a hundred miles of the toon. It'll be just be our luck that as soon as he got appointed his financial dealings will once again be under scrutiny by the media or the tax man will be sniffing round again.

I for one would like to wish Sir Bobby all the best. He came and steadied Newcastle after the shite Gullit and Dalglish reigns and has to be thanked for that least. He did seem to be losing the plot towards the end - but given he was getting his best players sold from under him and new ones coming in weren't his choices, the ongoing 'rifts' in the dressing room and who knows what else it was inevitable this day would come.

Only at the toon, eh?

Why Piracy Is Good

posted by mmChronic @ 11:29:00 AM

Anyone who has been videogaming for long enough knows who Stuart Campbell is. He's been around since the beginning of videogaming in the UK and still hasn't gone away.

Whilst you may not always agree with what he has to say it's usually interesting at least. Here's a piece he's written on World of Stuart titled 'Why Piracy Is Good'. Some of his arguments echo ones used in the New Links 'Piracy / My Gaming Platform Is Better Than Yours' Mass Debate such as piracy has always been here and if it is truly harmful how come the videogames industry is so lucrative today instead of being wiped out circa 1983 but the real reason I've linked it is it is mainly how about emulation and piracy have helped bring gamers games that never saw the light of day - officially at least anyway.

On the page are links to Robotron 2084 for the ZX Spectrum which was never released. It was thought that no copies of the game survived so this game was lost forever. However Stuart had a copy on a C90 (remember the feeling as you jammed your newest C90 into the tape deck and hit play?), approached the author for permission to release it into the wild and now it's there for your gaming pleasure.

It's a Bank Holiday (note to non Brits: a day usually spent sitting in a car going nowhere fast trying to get to somewhere that's raining) which means no work. Don't worry - posting quality will not suffer just because we aren't at work! ;)

The good news is I'm not sitting in a car as I'm going away for a couple of days this week so we aren't doing the usual Bank Holiday sitting in a queue on a motorway. So here's the first of my Bank Holiday posts: Doomed.

This is a flash game which is described as an 'evil hybrid child of Smash TV and Gauntlet'. Sounds good to me. Top down shooter with monsters, monster generators and random maps. What more could you want?

We've had a roomful of erm.. Merg hacking away with RSS, XML, JavaScript, CSS and magic string to bring you the RSSMerg box over there in the sidebar. And what a box it is. It's a big list of selectable RSS feeds updated once an hour. Currently the feeds are from Reuters and the Beeb but that list will grow fairly soon.

The big New Links broadband debate part 3564732

posted by bungers @ 9:44:00 AM

Just as well that I didn't wade in and buy broadband last night. If you've been following our FFXI thread (and countless  others over the last couple of months) I'm now ready to upgrade to the loveliness of broadband. It had come down to either Tiscali (£25, 512kbps, uncapped), or BT (£25, 512kbps, rumoured to be uncapped, but advertised as capped at a gig, but with the advantages of being all on one bill).

Earlier in the week Wanadoo cut monthly charges for 1Mbps ADSL broadband to £17.99. From today, I can order Plusnet's 1Mbps service for only £14.99. It's capped at a gig, but each additional gig is only £1.75. They're also offering a 2Mbps product at £19.99 per month including 2GB of downloads, with an additional £2 per gigabyte. Game, on?

It may be a cliche, but as with all cliches, it has an element of truth. Being a Toon fan is Never Dull™. Exciting, heartwrenching, rip-your-guts-out downright agonizing and gruesome at times, but never dull.

So, today, we turn to the 'papers, that massed group of professional spinners of the half-truth and outright liars, at least when it comes to sport.

The People today is carrying an interview with Uncle Bobby, and perhaps most disturbing is the quote that appears in the title. The icNewcastle site carries a similar story here.

So, in the words of Four None Blondes, "What's going on?"

Well, icNewcastle claims we're after three players - two new defenders and a "high profile player in another position".

So, did the club to us lie to us (AGAIN!)?

Or is this just Bobby being canny with the press?

Sadly, I think I know the answer to that... and it's not the one I like.

We shall see....

Does exactly what it says on the tin. The IRC Images site scrapes IRC channels for images then displays them in a web stylee.

Be warned: Because of the nature of the beast that is IRC the randomness of the images shown will vary from the mindnumbingly mundane to the shockingly explicit with the occasional peek into the inner workings of a psychopath's mind. Probably. Pr0n photoshops seem to be a bit popular.

The link itself is SFW - it takes you to a disclaimer page which warns you repeatedly aboput possible nastiness and ends with:
You are only permitted to enter this site if you have read the information above, and promise not to later say "You didn't warn me!", or "I thought that warning was a joke!".

Toon In Move For Boumsong?

posted by Merg @ 9:35:00 AM

That's what Sky Sports are claiming this morning.

Meanwhile, The Guardian have a curious set of nicely contradictory quotes from Freddie and Uncle Bobby, and claims that the Toon just recieve £9.5m for Woody initially, with more on appearances and successes.

And the ever reliable bastion of breasts, The Sun, is claiming that we're in for a £30m "swoop" for Rooney. Presumably they also claim he'll play as a centre-back...

Apparently not - they claim no knowledge of this new flavour. And they have threatened legal action over the claims which I think is justified considering the process for ensuring tins of soup are mice free.
All soup cans were upside-down during processing and compressed air was blown in to clear any debris. The soup was sieved and the can immediately sealed.
Considering the woman was telling her story in the Sun originally I don't know why Heinz were so outraged of lack of fact checking!

Actually we may as well give up on the Guardian as Dogs isn't allowed out to play with us anymore.

I say take his money and invest it in a sheltered home for abused women. But where do you draw the line on judging how much someone deserves to win millions?

Easy, don't judge, just ban the lottery. How many more cases like this do we need before we accept that the lottery is immoral.

Next Zelda on Xbox?

posted by mmChronic @ 12:23:00 PM

Wishful thinking on my part perhaps but Gamespy are reporting that Bill has made an offer for Nintendo. Sort of. He has reportedly said
"If Hiroshi Yamauchi phones me up, i will pick up at once," Gates told WirtschaftsWoche magazine on the sidelines of an analyst conference.

Gates added he would immediately make an offer if Yamauchi was willing to sell.
If such a thing was to happen, and it's a pretty huge leap from a quote in a German magazine to MS taking over the Big N, I can't see it happening quickly enough to really see Zelda on the Xbox but there's plenty of time for it to be sewn up by Xbox 2. Microsoft have been snapping up top developers for a while but this would be something else - as well as the developers they would own some of the best loved gaming franchises in the world. Sony are going to have to buy Sega now. Or something.

Blogger have finally added their user hack page to the help section and we've already had a few visitors from it as we are at the top of it. Looking at the page there are only three hacks and ours is the only one that changes the template. One of the others is an HTML keyboard thing which generates the code for entities (a bit like our icon selector) which is useful if you don't know how to do them and the other is a tutorial on putting a blog (not just a Blogger one) into Flash format. Neither are actually specific to Blogger - so we have in fact got the only Blogger Hack on the page! Yay!

This probably explains why it has taken so long to put the page up - they were struggling for Blogger content. So I reckon it's about time we had number 2 in the New Links Adding To Blogger™ series. Look out for that next week. I'll probably do the New Comment Count as I still haven't seen anywhere using Blogger comments that has one apart from here. Or an Icon Code Selector. Or a coded but as yet unimplemented on here, unnamed fuzzy clock. We could pwn that page in no time! ;)

We are just so far ahead of the curve here - if only we had a Commercial Manager to match we'd be intwerweb squillionaires by now!

posted by bungers @ 10:31:00 AM

Seeing as Merg has taken such an interest in (and become our resident correspondent for covering) the political issues on the other side of the atlantic, here's a couple more interesting articles that I was reading this morning...

When he was governor of Texas, George W. Bush pushed for an abstinence-based sexual education curriculum. The lesson for Texas teens is that the only safe sex is no sex, and that may be a lesson that heads nationwide. Texas educators are debating what will be taught in new sexual education textbooks for its high school students. One textbook under review advises that a good way a teen-ager can prevent a sexually transmitted disease is to get plenty of rest so he or she can have a clear head about sex and choose abstinence. The 15-member Texas Board of Education is considering and will likely approve four books, all of which extol the virtues of abstinence. Three make no mention of contraceptives at all while one makes passing reference to condoms.

Texas Sex-Ed Textbooks Face Contraceptives Battle

Also this week, good ol'e George has also
declared that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people."

We'll have no shouting here!

Apparently English is fast becoming the lingua franca of of the EU which means we will no longer have to shout at waiters abroad. Yay!

And who is responsible for this rise to prominence for our language in Europe? That'll be the Eastern Europeans who the Daily Mail wanted to keep out as they would be damaging UK culture or something. And scrounging benefits. And eating babies. Instead they are making it easier for us to go on holiday.

Their second language, if they have one, is nearly always English as they don't like Russian having spent years under Russian rule, don't like German (something to do with Hitler) and they don't like French (something to do with France). With the arrival of all these English speakers French and German are being marginalised.

The only thing to find out now is whether I can sue the school system for making me sit through all those shite French lessons - for nowt!

Do your bit for Firefox

posted by mmChronic @ 10:45:00 PM

Firefox is riding high in the linkback stakes according to a post at blakeross.com
Not even at 1.0 yet, Firefox already enjoys inbound links to its product page from a staggering 74,000 websites. This is 20,000 more than link to Opera, 5,000 more than link to Netscape, 15,000 more than link to Microsoft's IE page and 12,000 more than link to Apple. This is phenomenal!

All these figures are easily verifiable by clicking on the links in the article.

The article goes on to explain that a database of posts about Firefox has been created which is how I found out about it as we've had a few referrals from an entry of ours. They are trying to get 2000 contactable sites by August 10th. As the sites are indexed people are asked to put on the contact details for the site. I've just put ours in which takes them to 353 at the time of writing. This database is going to be used to contact people to get them to put the get Firefox button on their site. Well I think it's that button anyway as I couldn't find a link to buttons in the article.

Well there's ours in this post. I'll stick it in the sidebar at the weekend.

It seems the Women of WalMart didn't just get their tats out for any old reason - it seems they may have had to rely on food stamps to supplement a low income. I'm sure the money from Playboy came in handy.

California paid out $86m in assistance to WalMart employees in 2001 because their wages were so low and needed assistance in the form of food stamps and health related expenses. The study was based on data from that year but as WalMart wage increases haven't matched inflation levels the report reckons it will be even worse now.

So the next time you slap your arse in Asda's with a self satisfied grin spare a thought for their employees - they might be talking to Razzle right now.

Aks Newlinks

posted by Merg @ 9:39:00 PM

In the tradition of certain other dubious bloggy/news-type sites, people and readers ask their readership stupid questions. Great filler for those Slow-News-Days, too.

In order to perpetuate this pointless exercise, I've decided to inflict it upon our visitors too.

So, here's the very first "Aks Newlinks" -- in honour of a nameless aquaintance of ILN.

Since most (all?) of us are using Firebird, which Firebird extensions do you use? (And if you're feeling loquacious, why?)

I use:

  • Adblock -- zap any ad. A must.
  • Web Developer -- Some nice context-menu extras for web page work.
  • Tabbrowser Extensions -- Save and load tab sessions, undo close, general managment. Nifty.
  • Image Zoom -- For those times you just want to "make it bigger". The picture, the picture!
  • IE View -- For the broken sites.
  • EditCSS -- Edit CSS on the fly.
  • Bug Me Not -- For those with You-Must-Register site blues.

I was also running FlashBlock on older versions, but last I heard it didn't work on the latest Firefox. But right now, for me, nor does flash. I must get around to fixing that...

American Political Assassination Conspiracy Theory Investigation Time

posted by Merg @ 8:40:00 PM

The New York Times is reporting that digital analysis of the audio recording of the Kennedy assassination is to take place, to try and clear up once and for all if there were three shots or four. (Insert bad/tasteless Dirty Harry joke here).

As always, NYT requires registration, so if you lack the excellent BugMeNot extension for Firefox and Mozilla or plug-in forIE, use BugMeNot's website.

Pr0n Blogs Manipulate Google

posted by Merg @ 7:49:00 PM

Another psot that should be a hit with Bungers and Dogs -- computers and (the promise of, at least) bewbz in one place!

posted by Merg @ 7:40:00 PM
