How to remove IE from your system

Great little piece on how to get rid of the built in backdoor on your Windows box. Who's going to do it first to see if it works? I nominate bhell13 as he can tech support himself if it goes wrong!

WARNING: The page has info on editing your registry - if you're not sure what you are doing DON'T.

Morning chaps!

The bungizzle is back in full effect! (almost..!)

Of course, I won't post anything for a few days, I don't want to get accused of pliny-ism again!!

Off to work on my "Where in the World was Bungers" series, and complile some report about a tunnel of some description.

Pop Quiz: Which city has the longest underground subway system in the world?

a) London
b) New York
c) Paris
d) Moscow

No cheating with the tinterweb please!!

Quiz brought to you via KLM's inflight magazine, sometime yesterday... :)

I'd do it but I've only just stopped my home pc from crashing everytime it boots up.
[It was a dodgy copy of Norton antivirus that was causing it.]
Also if I remove IE how am I gonna do windows updates?

Read the article - as I've said on here before you don't need IE to do updates.

Considering most of the updates are for IE then you probably won't need many anyway!

Morning Merg...

You'd have to be a nugget to get caught by that one - it doesn't show installed extensions in the status bar (of which I have a few). If your setup is in anyway diferent to default you should spot it. Wasn't there one like this for IE a while back where they spoofed the toolbar and overlaid it over the proper toolbar? I seem to recall it was exactly the same in looks regardless of what your toolbar looked like.

I can't think of a site offhand that requires IE that I actually visit now anyway. There were a few problematic ones but they aren't problematic under 0.92.

I had some bother with Flash too but it seems to have sorted itself out now. It sometimes hangs on QT now but those I can download and stick in Media pLayer anyway.

Yeah it would have been better there - but it sort of overlapped with stuff here in the comments. That's my excuse anyway!

Yeah disclosure is very important. Users need all the warnings they can get - unfortunately non techy users tend to disregard this sort of shit anyway so they are their own worst enemies.

Rambling? That's normal for you anyway! ;)

There are probably loads of pages that don't work properly in FF - I've just stopped using the pages!

Well I can say the js on New Links works perfectly well in Moz and IE. Still haven't tried it in Opera or Safari but as far as I know it should work. If I can be arsed to do it on a non profit site then these commercial sites with money being spent have no excuse so fsck 'em I say.

If it was going to save me 120 quid I'd come to your house and fire up IE! :)

Seriously though I haven't been in that position yet - the only site where I was going to buy summat and failed was the Odeon. I didn't go to the pictures. They lost out.

Put money in N Tyneside's economy? Not fscking likely. I support businesses in Newcastle where possible. And the Gate isn't a bad pictures and has loads of legroom. Did I mention it was in the town too instead of some godforsaken industrial estate in the middle of nowhere? ;)

As for the html rendering - dunno. But (and there's always a but) didn't MS have to prove you could take IE out of windows without it breaking ie that it wasn't a core bit of the OS? I'm guessing the rendering got kicked out to a dll years ago - you certainly have access to a html render object in VB so you can write an IEalike in 4 clicks.

But yeah by using that you are still exposed to some risk. Fsck it I'm not using the interweb anymore - I'm going back to books!

We are getting wrong off Bungers for talking tech shit. Please confine yourself to boobies, slebs, boobies, slebs boobies, tats and boobies. Oh and you can talk about tits too if you want.

Well unless you've got a picture of her fragging in the nuddie he just won't believe you.

That'll do it!
