You Send It

Bhell13 posted a link the other day for a service called Dropload which allowed you to upload a file up to a 100Mb in size and they will store it for you. You send the download link to your mates and they have up to 4 days to grab whatever you've stuck up there. After that the file is deleted. Nice easy way of sending files to friends.

But New Links users don't want a puny 100Mb file limit and a measly 4 day storage time. We've been spoiled by Gmail and nothing less than 1Gb storage will do. A week of storage time would be nice too. Which is where YouSendIt comes in.

We tried it on Saturday night about 9pm so the file we uploaded should be there until 9pm (BST) 17th July. It's a 6.8Mb wmv video of a slightly strange Japanese pop song with mad anime effects. Try it for a mini speed test. Just as well Bungers is out of the country as this may have proved too big for his steam powered dial up thingummyjig. ;)

Note with both of these services that you can upload as many files as you want, send the links to yourself and publish it just like we have with the video. In addition to this YouSendIt has no sign up process. MP3 blog anyone?

I've just been chatting with toongoals.tk and he is going to stick with yousend it for the near future. He can't praise it enough.
Is Dropload not just for one person? I used it to send something to bhell13 and it only asked for one EMail address.

Yeah but you send it to yourself then post the link or mail it to whoever. I haven't actually tried it with Dropload (can't be bothered to sign up!) but that's what I did with YouSendIt.

The reason I linked Dropload over yousendit is cos I know the guy that runs it. :)

I think ILN had a go of Dropload and liked it. I think it was him telling me about a drop icon thing on the desktop anyway.

But YouSendIt just has... more. :)

So where's the money made on a scheme like this? We couldn't figure it out. No adverts, no fee, nothing.
