In 1924 Albert Einstein announced the discovery of 'near infinite time' which was his term for the 10 or so weeks between the end of one footy season and the start of the next. This annual period of interminable boredom also led to millions of deaths worldwide in a spate of boredom related suicides. To bring down the number of deaths the World Health Organisation introduced summer footy tournaments like the World Cup and the Euro internationals.
This still left 3-4 weeks either side of the tournaments which left the easily bored vulnerable. The WHO have now announced that football withdrawal suicides are a thing of the past with the release of their 3D Java football game. This is playable online so a potential suicide is only a few clicks away from a footy fix.
