Not actually my idea, but taken one of those e-mails you get now and again, but a worthy cause, and worth a read. I dunno who the hell Phil Hollsworth is, if you do a Google search you get this e-mail in slightly different formats for the US, Australian markets etc, but the principle is good, so we support it. Read on!
So, boycott BP and Esso, and buy your petrol from someone else. Any environmentalist worth their salt should be avoiding Esso anyway because of campaigns like StopEsso. I'm off out to convert my car to run on my own pi$$. ;)
We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer. Are petrol prices to come down? If they are, then we need to take some intelligent, united action.
Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves
by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was
a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can really
work. Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at 77p -80p, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers.
With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. Buy your
petrol at Shell, Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc.

And it makes more sense than driving a shed load of tractors through the middle of Newcastle...
Fuel protest plan for city centrevia Look At This... :)
Garages like ASDA make about one or two pence per litre. It's how much the petrol companies make selling it to the garages that you really want to know.
And yep, the fact that 70% of the price per litre goes on tax does suck, when the filthy yanks only tax petrol at 20% or something making each litre over there about 20p or whatever...
I propose a new tax on sweets and cakes... make some money out of the bariatrics instead of me for a change!
Tell you what, the new state of North Humber Land is gonna be a great place to live...
Mass debate time
I say keep the petrol prices as high as possible.
My reasons? You car drivers are playing a massive part in polluting our dear old earth and fumes produced have been linked to many ills in people including the massive rise in cases of asthma and other respiratory diseases.Smokers get massive tax increases every budget so why should'nt car drivers too.Cars cause a lot more damage to people and the earth than smokers do yet it is becoming politically incorrect to have a tab wherever you please, at least people who smoke accept the risks us pedestrians have no choice if we want to go into the town.I say this as a non-smoker it's just the hypocrisy of it all that gets me.
(Stands well back)
I'm not biting today.

I reckon we should convert cars to run on farmers (an entry for b3ta I never got round to posting) which we can capture using phoney 'farmers against fuel tax'. Greedy fuskers.
