My New Photoblog

I finally got my photoblog off the ground. It's something I've been meaning to do for ages. I'm a (very) amateur photographer it's just something I like doing.

Anyhoo... I've been messing with the basic template and there is still a bit more to do yet like a logo, colours and other boring stuff but I would appreciate it if you would visit it and let me know of any problems that you may have in making comments or whatever. I don't want you tell me me that I'm a crap photographer though. :)
Like I say, it's not finished yet but I'd like to make sure that the changes I've made to the template have not broken anything before I upload a lot more content.I'm particularly interested in how it looks and works in browsers other than my dear Firefox.

Photographs Of Newcastle. There a handful of categories on the left to look at.
If there are any problems can you please mention in the comments either here or there. Thanks in advance.

He puked his guts up? Nice..

The British embassy in Germany launched a new website for the 2006 World Cup on Friday that includes handy German phrases for England fans. The website www.britishembassyworldcup.com is designed to help the estimated 100,000 English fans expected to travel to Germany for the 32-team tournament that starts in Munich on June 9 and concludes with the July 9 final in Berlin. "Germany will be hosting the world's biggest party and it will make a great job of it," said British Ambassador Peter Torry in a statement announcing the new website ahead of Today's draw in Leipzig, 200 km (120 miles) south of Berlin.
Here are a few of the phrases you will find.
"Ihm war kotzuebel" (He was sick as a parrot) and "Er kotzte wie ein Reiher" (He puked his guts up) are in the guide as is "Wembley-tor" (Wembley goal) -- the controversial 1966 World Cup final extra time goal by Geoff Hurst when England beat West Germany.

Welcome to New Links. I'm not sure how long we will be on Blogspot for as I think there are plans to move soon but feel free to post here.

You will find a link to the icons for your posts here and over in the sidebar permanently.
Drop me a line if you have any questions like why can't Bungers ever do his Victoria Tunnel post or maybe why does Bungers post the same posts as last christmas on New Links.

The top 10 weirdest USB drives ever

The top 10 weirdest USB drives ever

Sometimes an anti-consumerist Mega-Corp just can't get an even break...

Regulars may recall that Sony had "problems" with their XCP "digital rights managment" software on a number of CDs that was essentially a root-kit, and left the honest people (i.e. thems wot bought a CD and used the included software) wide open to exploits. Oops.

Then came the discovery that the XMP software itself was essentially pirated, since it contained a fairly large amount of GPL'd code. Naughty naughty.

Then, word arrived that the SunComm protection used on a number of other Sony titles also left users open to getting their system pwnd and turned into a zombie spam-bot or whatever...

... and now, we hear, there's a hole in the patch Sony released to plug the hole in the SunComm DRM.

Oh dear.

Of course, if you just ripped off the CD, you'd be very naughty indeed, but you wouldn't actually be open to various network attacks.

As is usual with copy protection, the paying consumer gets the worst of the deal, while the pirates are listening in comfort...

Of course, I maintain pirating almost any album that came out in the last five years is its own punishment anyway, but that's just my jaded view of what we laughingly call the contemporary music industry (and I use the word "industry" advisedly).

So, big props to Sony for their nomination of "Company that screwed up product to a level even I find hard to believe".

Borat recently described shooting dogs for fun and said his wife could not leave Kazakhstan as she was a woman. The Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan said his behaviour was unacceptable and that Cohen might be serving political orders to tarnish Kazakhstan's reputation.

Borat's response?

"I like to state, I have no connection with Mr Cohen and fully support my government's position to sue this Jew."

We are moving again. Probably.

Yay - back on blogspot. ;)

Regular readers will know that we had some problems with our previous paid hosts when our Drupal installation was suffering from high CPU load after they 'upgraded' their version of PHP & mySQL. They were threatening to kick us off unless we stopped - which we couldn't. It had worked fine under the server env they originally gave us and borked in the 'new upgraded' version they moved us to. To cut a long story short we fled and Shepy offered us hosting on a server he has on the understanding as long as we didn't get to resource hungry we could stay.

Well we got too resource hungry for Shepy's server and have brought it down frequently recently. Sorry Shepy! :/

So where does that leave New Links? I was ready to throw in the towel totally as most of our lazy posters aren't erm.. posting. Posting was coming from ILN, Merg and me and that was about it. However I was slowly changing my mind as we were getting some new posters and Bungers even posted a nice HDTV post after we threatened to publish some pictures we have. Probably.

The upshot is I've found hosts who are Drupal specialists though we will be paying much more than the $4/mo we paid our previous hosts and the zilch that we pay Shepy. The cost isn't too much of a problem as our AdSense will probably just about cover it. The issue is whether it's worth it? Basically we need to sign up for a not very cheap hosting account and transfer the site. There is no point doing this if we are going to have no new posts. I'll have wasted my time and our money. So what do we do chaps?
