PSP Pricing - US Stylee

After yesterday's (somewhat one-sided) mass-debate about PSP pricing in the UK comes news that many US Retailers are only accepting pre-orders if you order a "bundle" -- for around $400(~£222).

At least for that price they get a memory card and a bunch of games though...

Edit: Toys'R'US are pulling the same trick with the in-short-supply Nintendo DS on Amazon.

At least the bundle (from EB at least) is letting you choose which games to have - I've seen too many bundles in the past where they stick a rubbish game or two in and don't allow you to change it.

Aye, it's not dreadful if you're in the market for a PSP. But certainly more than I'd want to drop on one in one go. Basically, it's there to force you into buying games with it.

Just before Christmas there was supposed to be a bit of a PS2 shortage pre Christmas and you could only buy bundles.

I bet I'm not the only one who thinks it was a bit of a manufactured shortage to get one last good Christmas out of the PS2 before the SP3 arrives.

Yeah, it's marvellous how a console in declining demand could suddenly have a shortage.

Must be all the kiddies/chavs wanting GTA:SA ...

Dear Newlinks.

I'm so glad you've highlighted this outrageous practice of forcing people to buy games with their game console.
I only bought a PS2 as I thought it would make a nice draft excluder for the cat flap.

I've got no problem with a bundle if I get full choice of the games. Will there be 3 games worth having in the launch line up though?

The PS2 could be got for stupidly high prices with two games - usually one decent and one awful. That's a rip especially at that time of year when parents will be pressured to buy their sprogs what they want.

And I reckon Dogs has been rereading his collection of Viz letter pages! ;)

I don't have a problem with it - you pays yer money, you takes yer choice, as it were. I'd ask where the outrage was but since he's wasting his one-post-per-day on being sarky, I feel it's a wasted effort ;)

I just thought it was interesting that they were using limited stocks to force people into buy more than they might have otherwise.

Everything I've read of the launch titles suggests they're decent but not outstanding as games.

Personally, buying any console, I'd probably just pick up one or maybe two games -- and suspect many are like that.

Look at the Toys'R'Us DS "offer" where you get Spiderman (which was also competant but not outstanding) and some crappy "Pro Gamer's Kit". Which looks like complete waste of money and space.

I object on the grounds that I only wasted a comment. I didn't waste a post. No way.
