DRM-Free Online Music Store?

The man behind Linspire (formerly Lindows) has announced he is to open an online music service -- and unusually, one that will carry MP3s without DRM.

The new company will also offer MP3 hardware and software.

It will be interesting to see who will let him distribute their music without DRM -- something I believe even Apple tried but fail to do for iTunes. A store offering legal access to the catalogues of major labels would likely be very popular - depending on price and sound quality - but pushes the market further in the opposite direction to that the RIAA, BPI, etc. would like.
