..and Bobby confirms Dyer did refuse to play.

..and Dyer apologises.

I wonder which team will be on ALL the back pages tomorrow? ;)

... and don't forget the Shearer-to-Blackburn story.

At this point it's easier to list teams that haven't made offers for him, it appears.

(Hm... Real? <g>)

Fergie was supposed to going for the hattrick of failed Shearer bids too.

But now we've got cloning facilities at the Centre of Life I'm sure a few deals can be arranged.

Gah, blogger's bogged down or something...

Cloning shearer and speed-growing him to a 25yr old ... now there's a thought.

Perhaps we could grow a couple of them for centre-backs while we're at it.

Unless you fancy a cloned uncrocked Woody...

We should have kept quiet about this cloning thing. What a team we could have built.

Then again, didn't Pele visit SJP last year? Perhaps they've already started. See, we don't have to sign players for long, just long enough to get a DNA strand. Woody's gone but we're already growing another one.

Bet they've nicked hair from Becks' comb too.

Brilliant.

That would certainly explain selling Solano and replacing him with.... Ambrose?

Gah, I say. Gah. And thrice gah.

I bet they've cloned SuperMac too.

There will be a baby in the Centre for Life with strapping thighs and big sidies. Every time the nurse come to change its nappy it'll shrug her off and then boot its bottle across the room.

If it'd been a few years back they could have cloned George Best and given him a dozen spare livers while they were at it.

BykerSink said...

yeah but all we need is a bit of his hair. As long as we don't clone his liver then we'll be fine.

And we can have Dolly the sheep at centre forward.

Funnily enough... I met Supermac at work a few years back and had a chat with him when he was really into baiting God. So i just give him a load of stick on behalf of every toon fan at the time.
Luckily for him he did(nt) see the funny side of all the stick he got off me - and neither did my boss. Admittedly he has had a change of heart and he does'nt seem to attack God nowadays, at least if he does nobody must be listening.

... and don't forget the kittens!

Supermac has been quiet in recent years because he knows which side his bread is buttered on. He came dangerously close to being run out of town last time he started.

It's the only place he can get paid to drivel shite to the local media - if he can't do it here he'd be totally jobless.

As for cloning a team - why stick with the DNA of players still alive? Wor Jackie and Shearer up front I say. With another Shearer on the bench for emergencies.

I'm reading Nick Hornby's "Fever Pitch" and last night I just got to his comments on SuperMac's time at Arsenal.

Highly amusing, and not at all flattering.

I can't believe we're selling Woody for 13.4 million which is 4.4 million more than we paid for him.

I don't give a toss if he's been out with injuries. The question is would you sell your one and only world class defender for a 4.4 million profit (minus the wages we paid him since he signed for us).

Of course you wouldn't unless you're a greedy fat bastard who puts profit before team interests.

Merg said...

I second that.

ILuvNUFC said...

I 3rd that. If there is such a thing.

What's this?
NewLinkers in total agreement?
Apart from mm, that is.

mmChronic said...

Erm.. could point out for me the bit where I said I wanted Woody to go please? Can't? Well blow me down with a feather!

Incorrect assumptions? On New Links? Surely not!

This could be a sign that the apocalypse is nigh...

Gallas rumour -- The Independent.

Personally even though, as I said on my blog, that I think he is the best Toon player I have ever seen, I still think it is the right price. Like Freddy I wouldn't have parted with him for £50m if he had been fit even half the time.

And let's face it - I bet he really fancies it so what's the point in arguing.

Of course it's only a good deal if we spend the money wisely on a replacement.

In some ways it's a pity we haven't sold Dyer too. £20m might have got us a world class replacement. As it is £13.4 won't by any one as good. But it might buy a player who'll at least play most of the games - and that's got to be a better bet.

What are the odds that Woodgate has an injury free season and plays constantly for Real Madrid?

Look at Shearer's history of injuries when he first moved to the toon. Just as well we didn't cash him in for 4.4 million.

So we buy a half decent replacement but who is unfortunately cup tied. We then get knocked out of Europe with our dodgy back four and lose at least 4.4 million in potential European earnings.

Or summat.

mmChronic said...

So what do we do? Refuse to sell him and take the double risk of semipermanent injury and/or semipermanent huff for not letting him go?

It's a shitter but it's happened - live with it. I think Freddy realised he had no choice once Woody decided he wanted to be off. Doesn't matter how big we think we are, Real are bigger.

How many fscking players that we would want would be cup tied at this stage of the season? ermmm - none? For sake of argument say it's Ledley King. How many cup compo's has he played in this season? 0.

Merg said...

I don't think it's a step forward, but I don't think there's much one can do if a club like Real comes knocking, and he's passed his medical now.

The two names I'm seeing bandied about the most are Gallas and Huth.

Any thoughts?

Well, aside from the obvious Huth/Shearer issue... :)
