Iraqi sovereignty established today

News just in.... Those sneaky yanks have handed over power to an Iraqi government two days earlier than planned. So, in the eyes of many a US patriot, it has been a complete success. They came, they wupped ass, and they got the hell outta there. Two days early. Hoorah for the good ol' US of A. Let's not forget that other great US victory in Afghanistan.

Except they're not getting the hell outta there. Aren't US (and our ) troops providing security for the new regime until they get Iraqi police and army ready?

Quite right in terms of physical presence but they are outta there in terms of power - given that current Iraqi security is a complete shambles we and the US are likely to be providing security for the next decade.

Maybe we should run round town one night and sack bush.

I just noticed that at Bloggerheads today.

I can hear IluvNUFC already...

"Poles at the ready, chaps!"

So it won't be seen as a success by the average American joe as the American casualty count will keep rising. It's what turned off the American public over Vietnam - the high number of Americans being killed rather than the pictures of naked 9 year old Vietnamese girls on fire from napalm or stories like My Lai.

I'm off to get a sack.
